Microsoft Dynamics NAV and GP now on Windows Azure

Both Microsoft Dynamics NAV and GP 2013 are now available from partners that host on Windows Azure. What does this mean for NAV and GP customers? According to Microsoft,

“…what we’ve enabled is the ability for Microsoft Dynamics Certified Partners to deploy Microsoft Dynamics NAV and GP solutions…This means your solution can now be hosted in a secure, private cloud on a Windows Azure Virtual Machine. End users can access the solution using Web or desktop clients, either from the office or on the go using mobile devices.”

Hosting these business solutions on a secure cloud infrastructure is a nice upgrade, especially with the ability to quickly access solutions, through the cloud, on the go with mobile devices. However, Microsoft’s Senior Director of Microsoft Dynamics ERP, Paul White expressed that this is strictly a technical modification and the company continues to provide these products through its partner industry instead of directly from Microsoft. White explains, “This is because we remain deeply committed to the industry and regional expertise our partners bring to every customer engagement, and to giving our customers the broadest possible range of choices…” The partner industry has been successful for Microsoft, with knowledgeable consultants implementing both the Dynamics NAV 2013 and Dynamics GP 2013 solutions independently.

According to early reports, the benefit of hosting small and medium sized businesses on the cloud infrastructure has produced “positive results” and early feedback “has also been great”. Some specific benefits that have been touted include reducing sales cycles, quickly creating and customizing demo environments, and reducing start up time, with one Microsoft partner claiming “…a customer can be up and running on a full system within one hour, with no startup costs. This used to take at least a month…”

With cloud systems growing in acceptance throughout the Microsoft community, the success of Azure could lead to additional Dynamics products shifting onto the cloud infrastructure.
